The Doane women’s cross country team placed fifth and the Tiger men were sixth Saturday in a closely-contested team competition at the Southwestern College-NAIA Mid-States Classic at Winfield, Kan.

Paced by the fifth-place overall finish of Viviana Arreola, the Tiger women got the short end of the straw in the battle for team placings as the top five squads in the 22-team meet were covered by just 27 points.

Kansas Wesleyan won the women’s title with 92 points, followed by Oklahoma Christian (108), Oklahoma Baptist (111), Lindenwood, Mo. (112) and then Doane with 119.
