TC, WC thindclads qualify

wcccMALCOLM — Both Tri County cross country teams and a lone Wolverine will be making the trip to Kearney this Friday for the 2010 State Class D Cross Country Championships after topnotch performances at the D-1 district meet near Malcolm last Thursday.

The district meet, held at Branched Oak State Recreation Area, featured a 17-team field, one of the larger ones since a fifth district was added to Class D several years ago.

 

The TC boys won the team title, holding off runner-up Malcolm by 2 points for the honor. The W-C boys finished 10th overall with Fremont Bergan, Yutan, Oakland-Craig, Lincoln Christian, North Bend Central, College View Academy and Louisville separating them from the top pair.

In the girls division, the Trojans were third only 5 points behind first-place Lincoln Christian with Louisville 3 points ahead of TC while W-C ended up seventh. Oakland-Craig, East Butler and Yutan separated the Trojans from the Wolverines.

TC’s Kayte Rohe was the top local finisher in the 4-kilometer girls race, taking fifth with a time of 16:59.7. Cassie Aerts from East Butler won the race in 15:49.3.

tcccSteph Albert of Wilber-Clatonia earned her third-consecutive state qualification by placing 10th in 17:33.1 followed by TC’s Halie Meints, 11th in 17:35.2.

 The TC boys were led by Jake McCain, who ran fifth in 18:24.9. North Bend Central’s Eric Kloke took the gold in 17:45.2 while runner-up Hadley Sejkora from Pawnee City had a 17:50.6 clocking. Garrett Kowalski ran eighth in 18:37.3 and Trojan Lucas Paswaters finished 11th with a 18:49.0 timing.
