Crete boys split with Lakeview, Norris

The Crete High boys’ soccer team edged Lakeview 1-0 and lost to Norris 2-1 last week in a pair of matches played on Simon Field.
The Cardinals took a 6-5 season record into a match at Grand Island Northwest after press time Tuesday. Crete plays at York Thursday in their regular season finale and begins play in the B-5 district tournament Monday at Simon Field.
Tourney pairings were not available at our deadline, but can be found on cretenews.net. First-round matches on Monday will be played at 6:15 and 8 p.m., to be followed by semifinals on Wednesday, May 2 and the final at 7 on May 3.
Of Crete’s five losses this season, Cardinal head coach Derek Spence noted that four came either in overtime or following a shootout.
“This is only going to make us stronger as a team as we look to our final games on the road and then as we host districts,” he said. “Our whole mentality is to be playing our best ball when district time rolls around.”
