The Crete Legion Juniors baseball team posted a 1-3 record in their own tournament held Thursday through Sunday at Stallard Field after a 12-2 loss at Gretna a week ago Tuesday.
Crete, 10-9 going into a single 5:30 p.m. game at Waverly Tuesday, lost a 7-6 heartbreaker in 11 innings in the first game of the Juniors tourney on Thursday.
Crete posted a 12-6 win over Lexington on Friday, lost to Ralston 11-0 on Saturday and fell to Pleasant Dale 6-2 Sunday.
Coach Jeremy Fries said that the team batting average has dipped and errors have gone up during the recent 3-7 slide over the past few weeks.
“This combination doesn't help win games,” he said. “We've had players gone for various summer things, and when you miss a few guys, everyone needs to step up their game. The regular starters need to do more as well as those who are given the opportunity to start.”
The team will host Hickman today (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m., making up a rainout from a week ago. Home games are on tap against Pleasant Dale on Friday and Fairbury Saturday with 6:30 first pitches and against Nebraska City Sunday at 4:30.
