Charlie Keller leaves volunteering legacy

    National Volunteer Week was proclaimed by President Nixon in 1974 and established nationwide to urge people to get out and volunteer in their communities. This year it is celebrated this week, from April 21 to 28. The week’s official theme is “Celebrating People in Action.” The Governor of Nebraska and First Lady Sally Ganem are promoting recognition of volunteers by reading to students at an elementary school in Lincoln, and Ganem had earlier presented several community service awards.

Commission recommends city sign ordinance
