BEATRICE — The annual Southeast Nebraska All-Star games are scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights and 10 area volleyball and basketball athletes are among nearly 72 all-stars participating.
The 2012 annual volleyball classic is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Truman Center on the SCC-Beatrice campus.
The all-star basketball games will be played in the same place Saturday with tip-off of the girls game at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 8 p.m.
All-star team members were chosen from nominations by over 80 high school coaches, according SCC athletic director Dan Johnson.
Volleyball
A Cardinal, a Timberwolf and a Trojan are among 12 members of the West All-Star volleyball crew coached by Fillmore Central’s Michelle Evans and TC’s Brett Scheiding.
Breanna Fye from Crete, Tri County’s Maci Hicks and Claire White of Exeter-Milligan are all West All-Stars.
Girls Basketball
Ashley Hansel of Meridian, Wilber-Clatonia graduate Bridget Murkle, Charlee Johnsen from Friend and Tri County multi-sport athletic standout Sydney Holtmeier head up the West All-Stars girls basketball squad.
Boys Basketball
Unlike past years, neither all-star boys basketball squad should have a clear height advantage for next Saturday’s game.
Tri County’s Sam Hahn, Michael Pflanz from Wilber-Clatonia and Will Dittmer of Crete, are the three local athletes on the team.
