McGowan qualifies for state golf

Crete High’s Ian McGowan placed fourth with a round of 76 in the B-3 district golf tourney Monday at Southern Hills in Hastings and qualified for the state meet May 22-23.
McGowan, the lone Cardinal qualifier, finished five strokes behind top individual Mitchell Oswald of Aurora.
Adams Central, Aurora and York were the three state qualifying teams from the B-3 meet with team scores of 313, 315 and 317. Crete finished in a tie for fifth with Grand Island Northwest in the 12-team meet at 348.
Also playing for the Cardinals Monday were Adam Bauer, 82; Drew Van Ert, 88; Will Dittmer, 102 and Zach Smejdir, 115.
